The Macro Economic Policy Analysis Directorate provides expert advice on macroeconomic conditions, fiscal policy and industrial strategy, while ensuring Malta’s economic and fiscal strategy upholds the European Union’s fiscal surveillance process. It is responsible for short-term forecasting, bi-annual economic forecasts, and publications such as the Draft Budget Plan and the Stability Programme.

The Directorate actively participates in the Economic and Financial Committee Alternates meetings, primarily dealing with fiscal policy at EU and Eurogroup levels. Recently it has participated in the review of the EU’s Economic Governance Review which will usher a new era of fiscal and economic surveillance in the EU. It also provides inputs to multilateral organizations such as the European Commission, the IMF, and various rating agencies.
